Johannes Dommel was born in Lübben (Spreewald), German Democratic Republic, in 1984. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany, in 2010. He joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), Berlin, in 2010.
Since then, he is involved in national- and international research projects in the field of wireless communications ("5G and beyond") and standardization (3GPP Rel.15/16) as a research associate and project manager (PMP). Currently, his work focusses on Industrial NB-IoT and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA).
His research interests includes the application of information theory, digital signal processing and optimization in wireless communication systems, where he is working towards his PhD since 2016.

Zusammenfassung | In this paper, a coordination framework for coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) deployment is introduced. The proposed scheme exploits wideband channel state information (CSI) in order to control CoMP transmission which reduces the required feedback compared to full CSI. Due to the spatial correlation of large-scale parameters of the mobile radio channel, wideband CSI is robust against outdating, thus applicable for scenarios with high user mobility. The coordination of precoder selection at adjacent base station (BS)-sites allows to shape the resulting spatial inter-cell interference pattern, i.e. the spatial distribution of signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) in areas between individual cells. In this paper a baseline scheme is proposed, which selects individual precoders on orthogonal bandwidth resources in a coordinated fashion. It is shown via system-level simulations, that the proposed coordination scheme based on wide-band CSI improves system throuput for various user distributions and is robust against user equipment (UE) mobility. |
